Welcome to my little corner of the blogosphere. Join me as I race the clock on the roads of Columbia, South Carolina and in my kitchen!
My original inspiration for this blog was the movie Julie and Julia. While the Julia Child cookbook referenced in the movie isn't my favorite, I thought it would be fun to share with others my experiences with recipes that I’ve sought out in my anxiety to use up perishables before they perish. Being descended from a long line of Scots-Irish cheapskates, I can’t leave food on my plate or let perfectly good ingredients hang out in my fridge until they turn into science projects.
We (and by "we" I mean my boyfriend Steve) buy a lot of produce without a meal plan, so I'm always trying to figure out how to use things up quickly. Most of what I make is vegan and uber-healthy, since I've gone full-on health nut over the past two years in order to slim down, rebuild strength and return to my old competitive running shape after a series of injuries. I've made a lot of progress in that area this year, having run my fourth marathon and several local races since. And I'm not here to preach, but if you haven't gone totally or predominantly plant-based, consider giving it a try or at least doing Meatless Monday for your health and the environment. Like my hippie co-worker's bumper sticker says, "Everyone does something when everyone does something"!
Some of the recipes on the Recipes page do contain meat because they predate my going veg; however, recipes containing meats and meat products are not featured in any posts from 2011 on.
So, that's the skinny on the CRG. Hope you enjoy it and find it useful!
